  • Resumen
    • This introduction situates the work of contributors to this volume with respect to the Andeanist literature on fiestas and celebrations, anthropological performances and representation, and discussions of identity, hybridity and power in Latin America. The articles contribute to the anthropological understanding of the processes of constructing identities and historical memories. It is suggested that close attention to the relations between performance text and social context is essential to understanding the performative articulation of identity. The political implications of performancebased approaches to identity are also addressed
