In the specific context of post-war Italy, the PCI's organisational strategy had two fundamental objectives: to root itself deeply in civil society and to shape a huge army of hundreds of thousands of trustworthy cadres. Beyond the obvious influences from Marxism-Leninism, the political situation as a whole pushed the party to affirm and control a moral order, a strong identity and a system of values. And while the party's normative denotations covered every slightest aspect of the Communist's life, the political work in itself was considered explicitly pedagogic. In this brief analysis of the PCI's educational methods, the specific relationship between the Militant and the Party will be emphasised as a general cultural frame within which the schools activity may be seen. And even though women s political participation was greatly encouraged, both organisational and educational patterns revealed a global approach which was modeled on a masculine template, and in actual fact reinforced male supremacy in politics
