    Despite the notoriety of the Romanesque sarcophagus of Doña Sancha, they still remain many doubts about its chronology, iconography and patronage. This article discusses the importance of the historical circumstances of the Crown of Aragon in the 11th century, as the main element for the proposal of a new iconographic interpretation of the tomb. They are also analyzed the Countess Sancha most outstanding biographical data, in order to show her strong influence in the Crown of Aragon politics, and to suggest the possibility that she commissioned her own sarcophagus.

    Malgrat la notorietat del sarcòfag romànic de Doña Sancha, no són pocs els dubtes que encara avui romanen sobre la seva cronologia, iconografia i comitència. En aquest article s¿analitza la importància de les circumstàncies històrico-polítiques del Regne d¿Aragó durant el segle XI, element clau per posar les bases d¿una nova interpretació iconogràfica del sepulcre. Alhora, s¿analitzen els fets més destacables de la comtessa Sancha com a personatge de gran influència a la seva època, qüestió que concordaria amb la comitència del seu propi sarcòfag.
