Don Quijote es un personaje pluridimensional, fruto de sus diversas lecturas, ya que no solo es un personaje literario en el sentido de que habita en una novela, sino también porque son sus lecturas, las diversas retóricas de los textos leídos las que le han transformado de Alonso Quijano en don Quijote de La Mancha. De modo que las identidades de don Quijote son librescas, literarias. A grandes rasgos, puede señalarse que sus lecturas humanísticas le dotaron de facetas cuerdas, y sus lecturas caballerescas le inclinaron hacia la mímesis que lo pre-senta como un hombre fuera de su juicio. Ambos universos literarios pugnan por imponerse a lo largo del decurso narrativo, triunfando finalmente la vertien-te humanista, que logra revivir en don Quijote a Alonso Quijano, el Bueno.

Don Quixote is a multi–dimensional literary character, not only in the sense that he inhabits a novel, but also because his diverse readings and the varied rhetor-ical nature of the texts he has read have transformed him from Alonso Quijano into Don Quixote of La Mancha. Thus, the identities of Don Quixote are bookish, literary. It can be said in general that his humanistic readings have provided him with rational facets, while his reading from books of chivalry have inclined him toward a semblance of what could be described as a mad man. Both of these literary universes compete over the course of the novel, which ends with the victory of the humanistic side and the re–conversion of Don Quixote into Alonso Quijano, the Good.
