    Este ensayo intenta fundamentar la tesis de que al menos en México, los movimientos estudiantiles han sido uno de los factores fundamentales del surgimiento en el siglo veinte de la educación superior pública, autónoma y gratuita. Pero sobre todo ofrece la tesis de que en un contexto radicalmente distinto �tres décadas de neoliberalismo- los movimientos estudiantiles han estado jugando un papel decisivo no sólo en la resistencia sino en la creación de modelos alternativos de educación superior en el siglo veintiuno

    The purpose of this article is to contribute to the thesis that, at least in Mexico, student movements in the twentieth century have been one of the most important factors in the emergence, expansion and consolidation of public, autonomous, critical and free of charge higher education. Furthermore, it argues that in a radically different context in Mexico �three decades of neoliberal regime- student movements not only have been playing a decisive role in resisting the wave of privatization and exclusion in education but have also made an important contribution towards the creation of alternate models of higher education in the twenty-one century
