    By the singular handling of the theme of the doppelganger he offers, Le boulevard périphérique of Henry Bauchau (published in 2008) is a try to reconstruct the notion of subject. According to the writer, the contemporary subject, beyond the death that characterizes it from the end of the Second World War, can be understood as a unity that subsumes its splittings in favor of an overall coherence. This position is embodied in the fiction through a «return» of the personal hjstory (the achievement of a mourning) on one hand, and the collective History (the acceptance of the massacre of Holocaust) on the other hand.

    Par le traitement singulier du thème du double qu’il propose, Le boulevard périphérique d’Henry Bauchau (publié en 2008) se présente comme un essai de reconstruction de la notion de sujet. Selon l’écrivain, le sujet contemporain, dépassant l’éclatement qui le caractérise depuis le sortir de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, peut s’appréhender ainsi qu’un ensemble qui subsume ses divisions au profit d’une cohérence globale. Cette position s’incarne dans la fiction par le biais d’une «revenance» de l’histoire personnelle (l’accomplissement d’un deuil) d’une part, et de l’Histoire collective (le dépassement du massacre de la Shoah) d’autre part.
