En el campo de las estructuras no es habitual convivir en el tiempo con una nueva tipologia estructural que esté en fase de investigación y desarrollo con altas posibilidades de éxito de implantación en el mercado. Si bien las estructuras tensegriticas nacieron en la década de i 960, es en los úitimos 20 años cuando se están realizando grandes avances en el estudio del comportamiento y metodologias de disetio que permitan la introducción de este novedoso concepto estructural en un mercado tradicionalmente conservador como es el sector de la edificación. Las estructuras de bóveda, los arcos, los dinteles y las estructuras tensadas son tipologias muy conocidas y de gran aplicacion durante la historia. La tensegridad es la tipologia llamada a establecerse en los próximos años, siempre y cuando sea capaz de solventar las barreras técnicas y constructivas que hacen a dia de hoy que su introducción en el mercado sea lenta y sin una aplicación definida.

In the field of structures is nof usual for a new structural typology still in a research and development phase to enjoy strong possibilities of a successful implantation in the marketplace.
Tensegrity structures were born in the 60's. however great advances in the study of behaviour and design methods have been carried out in the last twenty years which have led to the introduction of this brand new structoral concept in a traditionally conservative market such as the building industry. Vault structures, arches, lintels or tent structures are typologies well known and have been applied extensively throughout history. Tensegriiy is the new tiypology set to establish itself over the coming years, provided that it can overcome the technical and building barriers that heve hitherto made its introduction into the market slow and its application ill-defined.
