This study aims to assess the impact of the Unique Minds Program (Stern, 1999) in schoolchildren diagnosed with learning disabilities (LD) and their families, whom consulted the Santo Tomas University´s Psychological Service Center in Santiago - Chile, with regards to the following variables: self-esteem, depressive symptoms and family operation. The ages of the children that are of the middle socio-economic level, fluctuated between eight and twelve years old. For the pre and post-tests, a pre-experimental design was used with one group. For data collection and analysis a mixed method was used, with the application of the following instruments: the Family Adaptability and Cohesion Scale (A-FACES III), the Child Depression Inventory (CDI), the Piers-Harris Children´s Self-Concept Scale, a Socio-demographic Survey and an assessment for each session. The results did not return any significant statistical differences regarding the variables. However, qualitative differences of the workshops central ideas are perceived. More specifically, there is a redefining of LD, developing new strategies for confrontation and internalizing the concept of shared responsibility for both the family and school.
