    The paper analyzes the existing places of memory in the district of Praia Grande, São Luís, Maranhão, seeking to refl ect on its importance in the composition of the tourist city. The study is a qualitative approach, relating to urban issues, cultural heritage and memory, to analyze the meanings, practices and social relations that involve the dynamics of the district of Praia Grande. Through semi-structured interviews with residents, it is concluded that the landmarks of the Praia Grande are enunciators feelings of belonging and identity and can become elements of cultural tourism boosters site. The study highlights the need to incorporate different sociability present in the material and symbolic spaces where social interactions take place in the development of tourism, to contribute to the enhancement of cultural heritage

    O artigo analisa os lugares de memória existentes no bairro da Praia Grande em São Luís, Maranhão,buscando refl etir sobre a sua importância na composição da oferta turística da cidade. O estudo parte de uma abordagem qualitativa, relacionando questões sobre espaço urbano, patrimônio cultural e memória. Por meio de entrevistas semi-estruturadas realizadas junto aos moradores, conclui-se que os marcos urbanos da Praia Grande são enunciadores de sentimentos de pertença e identidade e podem se converter em elementos potencializadores do turismo cultural local. Destaca a necessidade de incorporar as diferentes sociabilidades presentes nos espaços materiais e simbólicos onde se realizam as interações sociais no desenvolvimento da atividade turística, de forma a contribuir para a valorização do patrimônio cultural
