    El presente artículo pone su punto de mira en las múltiples realidades y las distintas representaciones que tuvo el terremoto atlántico de 1755. Inicialmente centra su atención en la magnitud atlántica del movimiento sísmico y sus inmediatas consecuencias en Lisboa, Setúbal o Cádiz, pero también en las costas atlánticas del reino de Marruecos, las Islas del Caribe o Norte América. En un segundo momento, el artículo intenta trazar las distintas representaciones que envolvieron el terremoto y su significación, poniendo un especial énfasis en el discurso ilustrado y la propaganda europea, especialmente inglesa y francesa.

    The present article focus on the multiple realities and the different representations that the Atlantic earthquake of 1755 had. First of all, it pays attention on the Atlantic magnitude of the seismic movement and its immediate consequences on Lisbon, Setoubal or Cadiz, but also on the Atlantic coasts of the kingdom of Morocco, of some Caribbean Islands or of North America. Secondly, the article tries to draw the different representations that wrapped the earthquake and their meaning, putting a special emphasis on the enlightened discourse and on the European propaganda, especially English and French ones.
