    Con su formación intelectual y su sensibilidad, Humboldt logró una descripción exótica de la naturaleza tropical que durante muchos años, después de su muerte, identificaría a las excolonias españolas. Científicos, artistas y viajeros de todo tipo, vendrían por estas tierras en pos de Humboldt. No alcanzó, sin embargo, a captar una imagen exótica de la sociedad colonial que afirmara la otredad del hombre americano.

    Academic background and sensibility are paramount attributes in Humboldt�s description of the tropical regions� exotic nature. Subsequently, that description remained as unique geographical image identifiers of former Spanish colonial landscape. However, in spite of its scientific, artistic and exploratory character, Humboldt�s work did not reach any well defined exotic image of colonial society, due to the essentially overriding nature of the tropical world
