  The figure of the Devil had an important role during the Middle Ages served as the main reference for the publicity of the Catholic Church. The terrible torture of men would be subjected to hell and the delights of paradise populated speeches and led the imaginary of the period. The grotesque and nightmarish image was intended to scare people to obey the moral laws and to turn away from sin.

  A figura do Diabo teve uma importante função durante a Idade Média servindo como principal referência para a propaganda da Igreja Católica. As terríveis torturas a que o homem mau seria submetido no inferno e as maravilhas do paraíso povoavam os discursos e conduziam o imaginário do período. A imagem grotesca e aterradora visava assustar as pessoas para que obedecessem as leis morais e se afastassem dos pecados.
