¿Es posible aprender Geografía a través de la toponimia?

    El artículo aborda la cuestión de qué es la toponimia, la importancia de su estudio y su relación con la Geografía. En particular, se estudian algunos de los nombres de lugares en lengua náhuatl para corroborar su relación con algún aspecto de la Geografía física o humana.

    También se proponen algunas estrategias didácticas para el uso de la toponimia en la enseñanza de la Geografía. Finalmente se explica la metodología de la prueba piloto de una de las estrategias didácticas que se aplicó en un grupo de tercer grado de primaria y el análisis de los ejercicios. En general, la estrategia fue del agrado de los alumnos, pero sobre todo significativa en el aprendizaje de la Geografía, respecto a la relación del nombre del lugar y las características del paisaje.

    The article approaches the question of what is the toponymy, the importance of its study and its relation with the Geography. Particularly, it studied some names of places in language náhuatl to corroborate their relationship with some aspect of the physical or human Geography. Also we propose some didactic strategies for the use of the toponymy in the teaching of the Geography. Finally it explained the methodology of the pilot test of one of the didactic strategies that were applied in a group of the third degree of basic education and the analysis of the exercises. In general, the strategy was of the pleasure of the students, but especially significant in the learning of the Geography, with regard to the relation of the local name and the characteristics of the landscape.
