    En tre el Me dio e vo tardío y la temprana Modernidad, emerge en los ám bi tos ger ma no-par lan tes el novedoso fenómeno brujeril: una teo ría y una praxis repre si va iné ditas que lo gran lle var al pa ro xis mo la in ter ven ción del diablo en el mundo. No obstante, en é po ca coetánea, teó lo gos de origen hispano parecen sostener una pos tura di vergente, un dis cur so demonológico más cau to y moderado. En el presente trabajo, las obras antisupersticiosas de Lope de Barrientos y el Formicarius de Johannes Nider son analizados como punto de partida para identifi car, atendiendo a sus res pectivos ámbitos polí ti cos y cul tu ra les, dos pos tu ras di ver gen - tes res pec to de las re vo lu cio na rias re pre - sen ta cio nes del dia blo y, sobre todo, para postular la existencia de dos procesos al ter na ti vos de construcción de �o trosin ter nos� en la Europa del Cuatrocientos.

    El caso castellano, en ra zón de la �cuestión conversa� y de la existencia de ciertas relaciones de poder que han de mol de ar y ha bi li tar el establecimiento de la Inquisición como dis po si tivo de do mi na ción polí ti co-re li gio so por excelencia, merece ser considerado en su particularidad.

    Between the late Middle Ages and the early Modern Age, in Germanspeaking regions, a novel phenomenon of witchcraft emerged: an unprecedented combination of theory and repre ssive practice which took the Devil�s work in the world to its highest point. In the same period, ho wever, Hispanic theologians seemed to hold a different view, a more cautious and moderate de monological theory. Throughout this work, we will analyse the anti-superstitition works wri tten by Lope de Barrientos and The Formicarius, by Johannes Nider, as a starting point to iden tify, bearing in mind their respective political and cultural circles, two opposing views regarding the revolutionary representations of the Devil and, mainly, to assert the existence of two alter na tive processes for the construction of �Christian Others� in 15th. Century Europe. The Castilian case de serves particular consideration in view of the �issue of the New Christians� and the existence of certain power relationships which moulded and paved the way for the establishment of the Inqui sition as the ultimate means for political and religious domination.
