La crítica popperiana a la justificación teórica del historicismo político

    La tesis que intento establecer en este trabajo es que la crítica de Popper a la justificación teórica del historicismo está fundada en definitiva en una decisión de carácter moral. Según Popper, la pretensión del historicismo de haber capturado de una vez y para siempre la clave del devenir histórico ha servido de apoyo a distintos proyectos de ingeniería holística o utópica, cuyo resultado práctico ha sido el sacrificio de muchos hombres y mujeres en nombre de un ideal de sociedad con claro contenido utópico y, por lo tanto, probablemente no realizable. Popper se propone demostrar que esta pretensión, especialmente por sus consecuencias morales, no se encuentra justificada y que, además, no es justificable de ningún modo a partir de las condiciones propias del saber científico. La estrategia metodológica de Popper en este punto consiste en establecer cuál es el alcance del saber histórico y, conforme a ello, a qué tipo de conclusiones se puede seriamente comprometer. Esto significa, en otros términos, precisar cuál es el estatuto epistemológico de la historia y qué información puede razonablemente proporcionar para justificar decisiones políticas.

    The thesis that this paper attempts to establish is that Popper's criticism to the theoretical justification of historicism is actually founded on a moral decision. According to Popper, the historicist's pretension of having captured for once and for all the key of historical evolution has worked as an argument to support some holistic or utopic engineering projects whose practical result have been the sacrifice of many men and women in name of an ideal of society with clear utopic content and, therefore, probably nonattainable. Popper aims to demonstrate that this pretension is not just specially by its moral consequences, and that in addition, is in no way justifiable from theconditions of the scientific knowledge. Popper's methodologic strategy in this point is establishing the reach of historical knowledge and, according to it, to what type of conclusions can it be seriously committed. This means, in other words, to determine the epistemologic status of history and what kinds of information can it reasonably provide to justify political decisions.
