We present an analysis of the ten stories Eugenio Fernández Granell published in Mexico in 1970 under the title of Federica no era tonta (Federica was not silly). They form an interesting sample of Spanish surrealism, which persistently maintained its original principles and attitudes, and, at the same time, express both the literary concerns and the vital experiences of their author, who had been born in La Coruña in 1912 and lived for decades as a republican exile in different Spanish American countries (Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Puerto Rico) and in the United States (New York) before his definitive return to Spain in 1985, where he died in 2001.
