    En este ensayo me acerco a los expedientes clínicos de las mujeres diagnosticadas como histéricas del Manicomio General "La Castañeda" en los comienzos del siglo XX y me pregunto ¿qué dicen ellas acerca del médico, de la institución médica, de su propia enfermedad, de sí mismas? A su vez, esta pregunta por la voz de las mujeres me plantea otra de índole metodológica: como historiadores ¿podemos acceder al discurso del otro? Con esas dos interrogantes me enfrentó aquí a la ausencia, al silencio y a la imposibilidad estructural del discurso histórico por acceder al decir de todos aquellos a quienes nunca se les concedió el derecho a la palabra ni tuvieron posibilidad de acción. De todas formas, a partir de esa ausencia busco el modo de idear estrategias e imaginar caminos que traigan al presente la huella de esas vidas singulares.

    In this essay I approach the clinical files of the women who were diagnosed with hysteria in the General Asylum "La Castañeda" at the beginnings of the Twentieth Century and I ask the following questions: What do these women say about their doctor, about the medical institution, about their own illness, and about themselves? In turn, this question about the voice of women leads me to another question, a methodological one: as historians, can we access the speech of the other? These are the two questions with which I face the absence, the silence and the structural impossibility of historical discourse to reach the speech of all those who were never given the right to speak or the possibility to act. Nevertheless, it is from this absence that I seek for the way to imagine paths to bring the mark of these unique lives to the present.
