Resumen de La expedición filmada del buque oceanográfico Meteor por el Atlántico sur (1925-1927)

El descubrimiento por la autora de dos documentos cinematográficos en el Archivo Nacional Alemán sobre la primera expedición oceanográfica del buque Meteor, realizada por el Atlántico sur desde 1925 hasta 1927, y la mención expresa a las Islas Canarias al final de uno de ellos motivaron esta investigación. Tras realizar un estudio pormenorizado de ambos filmes y de materiales primarios relacionados se pretende dar a conocer la existencia de estas cintas —hasta ahora inéditas—, a la vez que el papel que tuvieron las Islas Canarias en esta destacada expedición, en la que gracias a una nueva herramienta, la ecosonda, se pudo descubrir la cordillera del Atlántico medio (la dorsal-medio Atlántica) y conocer datos de velocidades de sedimentación. Como se especifica en el artículo, varios factores nos inducen a pensar que los metros que faltan en la versión que se conserva del filme son precisamente los que recogían las escenas de la estancia de la tripulación en Canarias, en concreto en Tenerife, y narrada en los informes del capitán del navío.

The discovery by the authoress of two film documents in the National German Archive related to the first oceanographic expedition of the Meteor vessel carried out in the South Atlantic from 1925 to 1927 and simultaneously the explicit reference to The Canary Islands at the end of one of them was the reason to do this research. After a detailed study of both films and the primary documents related one tries to give to knowledge the existence of these documentary films, so far unpublished, and at the same time to underline the role of The Canary Islands in this important expedition in which, thanks to a new tool, the echo sounder, the Midatlantic Ridge was discovered and the sedimentation speed data was known. As stated in the article, several factors have led to think that the meters missing of the remaining film version are precisely those which gathered the scenes of the stay of the crew in the Canaries, particularly in the island of Tenerife and that were narrated in the reports of the captain of the ship.
