Resumen de El abandono escolar prematuro en España

Los indicadores generalmente utilizados para medir el fracaso escolar ponen en evidencia la clara necesidad de España por mejorar su alta tasa de abandono escolar prematuro, el nivel educativo de la población del 20 a 24 años y las dificultades de comprensión lectora de los alumnos. A pesar de las actuaciones llevadas a cabo en los últimos veinte años, todavía no se ha logrado un avance en los resultados. El objetivo de este artículo es analizar la situación actual para el caso español desde una perspectiva comparada y establecer una serie de medidas para reducir el fracaso escolar, una de las asignaturas pendientes del sistema educativo español.

This article is a review of the current situation with early school leavers (ESL) in Spain. It analyses the value of this indicator and its use within the European Union. The author presents an overview of the European guidelines since 2000 and the poor performance of Spain. The article gives a panoramic view on the situation, it outlines the measures which are still to be taken, and identifies the challenges that the European Union will face in the upcoming years. Finally the author offers a concluding reflexion on the subject, and gives his recommendations for achieving best results in the reduction of the ESL.
