    Tradicionalmente, el concepto de alfabetización digital se ha circunscrito básicamente en infraestructura y accesibilidad de las TIC�s (tecnologías de la información y la comunicaciones) y el internet a las instituciones educativas de educación superior. Esta visión ha impedido tener una concepción más holística con respecto al papel que juegan la alfabetización digital tanto en los procesos de enseña y aprendizaje como en la sociedad. Este artículo tiene como propósito presentar una revisión investigativa y teórica que permita comprender las dimensiones de la alfabetización digital, la brecha existente entre estudiante y profesores, y algunas implicaciones curriculares y pedagógicas que implican generar cambios significativos en las prácticas pedagógicas tradicionales aún preponderantes en muchas Universidades.

    Traditionally, the concept of digital literacy has been basically circumscribed to providing ICT�s (Information and communication and technology) infrastructure and internet access to the higher education institutions. This vision has prevented a more holistic conception in regards with the role which play the ICT�s literacy in the teaching and learning processes and in the society as well. This article has as a main purpose to present a research and theoretical overview which allow us to understand the digital literacy dimensions, the technological gap between students and professors, and the curricular and pedagogical implications that bring about meaningful changes in the traditional teaching models that pervade a great number of Universities.
