This article looks at two controversial issues in the field of SLA, the use of L1 and Corrective Feedback (CF). It highlights the arguments for and against the use of L1 in the classroom before discussing CF. There then follow four classroom activities that merge L1 use with CF. It concludes by likening CF to Consciousness Raising (CR) in line with humanistic methodology.
