  • Resumen
    • he intention of this text is to discuss the possibilities of ar t as a dynamic cultural process capable of questioning dominant values, creating new forms of pe rception and propitiating indignations for human dignity. Art is a crucial aspect of t he human condition. It expresses our capacity to create symbols, metaphors, representations and simulacra of reality. This text looks at the history of several artistic movements and their break ing of standards, question- ing of absolute truths and revolutionary understanding of art.

Concepts such as art for art and engaged art are deconstructed and analysis made of arts manifestation of ethics and complexity. Finally, we critically consider the evolution of the term culture and its inherent processes of domination, in an attempt to verify if the reproducib ility of art has resulted in its democratization or in contrast, commercialized art as merchandise
