This paper discusses the use of social software, not only about the digital publication of information, but mainly about its potential for the social construction of knowledge. With this intent, the concepts of knowledge, information and communication are studied. Even though the concepts have relations with each other, their fundamental differences are shown. Further, the paper discusses how the Internet affects the modes of information recovery and the collective construction of knowledge in scientific and corporate contexts. Finally, the possibilities of social software favoring dialog and the social construction of knowledge are analyzed.
