This paper gives the results of the program Promoting Human Values for the Elderly that united individual and group projects for the elderly, care workers, workers in geriatric institutions and the community. The intention was to improve the quality of life of the elderly and help them adapt to their life cycle and environment by means of workshops on leisure, communication, business management and extrainstitutional care, as well as counseling for the elderly and their families. The results were that the elderly communicated their needs and their personal and institutional experiences. They socialized with young people, eating, dancing, playing and talking together and commented on changes associated with aging. They shared their prayers and beliefs. They developed artistic and physical skills with handicrafts.
They said they needed systematic group attention. It is clear that the guidance counselor needs gerontological training. The program should be based on the inner-outer world of the elderly. The program developed personal, professional and academic skills in the guidance counselor and helped to integrate the community, educational and geriatric institutions.
