El miedo a pensar

    De más en más, y sobre todo en revistas indizadas o evaluadas, abundan las citas para confirmar las aseveraciones que hacen los autores de los diferentes artículos y que, además los editores exigen, al finalizar el artículo, una bibliografía como soporte a lo anteriormente afirmado.

    Esto me ha llevado a investigar sobre el origen del �miedo� a pensar por sí mismo, origen que es �anterior� y �causa� directa del pecado original.

    La finalidad de estas líneas no es la de ridiculizar a quienes utilizan citas para dar seriedad a sus afirmaciones, sino la de sensibilizar y hacer tomar conciencia de que hay que pensar por uno mismo sin miedo a equivocarse y que un artículo tiene valor no por la cantidad de autores o de bibliografía que cita sino por lo que en él se expone sin despreciar, por eso, lo que otros digan al respecto.

    There is an increasing tendency for writers, especially in refereed journals, to support their arguments with quotations and to append a bibliography as a further indication of the significance of the article. This led me to look for the origin of this fear of thinking for oneself, the origin of the situation described above.

    The purpose of this article is not to mock those who use quotations to give weight to their statements, but to raise people�s awareness and make them realize that it is necessary to think for oneself without being frightened of being wrong. The worth of a paper should not be assessed by the number of authors quoted or the length of the bibliography, but by its own content, without disparaging what other writers have said on the subject.
