Una Aproximación Histórico Cultural a la Revolución Cognoscitiva de Cara al Nuevo Milenio

    La mayoría de los textos cotemporáneos de psicología ha aceptado la idea de que una revolución cognoscitiva tuvo lugar a mediados de la década de 1950. La metáfora de la revolución ha estado bajo escrutinio al amparo de dos argumentos.

    Primero, se ha documentado que otros enfoques coexisten con el cognoscitivismo, lo que es inconsistente con la tesis de una revolución científica como la conceptualizara Kuhn. Segundo, el cognoscitivismo mismo ha sufrido una serie de transformaciones para responder a las profundas transformaciones teconlógicas y conceptuales que marcan el final del Siglo XX y el principio del Siglo XXI. La realidad virtual presenta el reto más reciente a la propuesta cognoscitivista. Al mismo tiempo, las nuevas tecnología traen consigo la oportunidad de reconceptualizar el objeto de estudio de la psicología tradicional. Se aborda el tema del la revolución cognoscitiva desde la perspectiva historicocultural. Se discuten el origen, alcance y limitaciones de la metáfora. Se plantean los retos que plantean a la psicología como disciplinas las actuales transformaciones culturales.

    Most contemporary psychological texts have accepted the notion that a cognitive revolution took place in psychology during the mid 1950�s. The metaphor of a revolution has been recently under scrutiny based on two different arguments. First, it has been documented that other theoretical approaches coexist with cognitivism, which is inconsistent with the thesis of a complete revolution as Kuhn conceptualized it. Second, cognitivism itself has undergone several changes to respond to the demand of the deep technological and conceptual transformations that characterize the end of the 20th Century and the beginning of the 21st Century. Virtual reality presents the most recent challenge to the cognitive proposal. At the same time it carries a great opportunity for rethinking the object of study of traditional psychology. A sociocultural approach is taken to examine the metaphor of the cognitive revolution. The origin, scope and limitations of the metaphor are discussed. The challenges that cultural trasformations post on psychology as a displine are stated.
