  • Palynological evidence from the upper reaches of the Barada River provides information on the Upper Post-glacial vegetation history in that part of the Anti Lebanon range. Open forest of deciduous oaks was found here during Medieval time while cedars played a role on higher elevations. Quite recently, about 200 years ago, forest vegetations were destroyed and maize-growing was introduced.
