  • Two prospection and excavation campaigns on the west bank of the Nile led to the discovery of several Middle Palaeolithic sites.

    The site of Beit Allam produced an important material characterized by a well developed Levallois technique but also by the flaking of pebbles with one or more striking platforms. Retouched tools are very rare. The stratigraphical position with respect to wadi and Nile sediments is presented. The material of Nazlet Khâtir is also characterized by the Levallois technique often of Nubian type. Levallois blades and points are numerous but retouched tools are rare. The prospected area seems to be very poor in tools of Middle Palaeolithic style. Levallois technique, however, is very well represented.
