  • Resumen
    • Fourteen montlis of excavation in the Djebel Hamrin area, along the Diyala river and some 150 km NE of Baghdad enabled us to explore part of a cemetery belonging to the Early Dynastie I period. The tombs were mudbrick structures. The relative situation and dimensions of each of these constructions, the nature and proportional wealth of their contents emphasize a developed social hierarchy. The short duration of Kheit Qasim as well as of ail the EDI sites in the explored area and the discovery of several fortified settlements by some other expeditions could mean that the phenomenon finds its origins elsewhere, possibly in the large cities of the Lower Diyala, and corresponds to some precise purpose such as the control of commercial ways in which the Iranian copper might have found its place.
