Resumen de Some fire installations from Abu Salabikh, Iraq
This article describes and catalogues a group of fire installations from the Southern Unit at T. Abu Salabikh in Southern Iraq. An attempt is made to determine the uses of the three main types of installations using both archaeological and ethnographic parallels. The first type is the well-known tannur or bread oven ; the second is a group of open rectangular hearths which seem to have been used for heating and possibly for grilling food as well. The third type is represented by one fine two-storey oven, apparently purely domestic in character. It is suggested that such ovens may have been used for brewing as well as for the cooking of leavened bread and other dishes.
