The article contextualises the publication of source material in the Series `The Protestant Church in Baden during the Third Reich´, completed in 2005 under the auspices of the church office of the Protestant Church in Baden, in the research don in the field of protestant church and contemporary history from World War I to the end of the Nazi era. The accurate edition is being presented as part of the both theological and historical research activities since the 1950s focussing on the role of the Baden Church under Hitler. This research was and still is based on a quite remarkable availability of source material. Therefore, the interaction between state and church 1933-45 can be explored in an exemplary way.
