This article addresses Recension Bb of the important Collectio canonum of Bishop Anselm II of Lucca (d.1086). Preserved in a single manuscript Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana, Barberini lat. 535 , Recension Bb has in the past been seen as a localized version of the Anselmiam collection, albeit one that witnesses to the transmission of the collection in variety of versions. By focusing on the additional canons appended at the end of each of its seven books, their content and transmission, as well as speculating where possible as to their formal sources, this article argues that Bb is not an incomplete or "imperfect" version of Anselm's collection, but rather an intriguing witness to one of what were undoubtedly many "centres" of canonistic activity in Italy in the late eleventh and early twelfth centuries.
