  • SEROLOGIC PROFILE EVALUATION OF TOXOPLASMOSIS IN CHILDBEARING AGE WOMEN OF TWO COMMUNITIES WITH DIFFERENT SOCIOECONOMIC STATUS IN THE NORTHWEST OF SÃO PAULO STATE The characteristics of toxoplasmosis and its serious relationship with pregnance, make serology remains the main diagnostic tool for toxoplasmose. For pregnant women and women of childbearing age, is extremely important that serological markers differentiate recent infection from previous infection, indicating immunity, susceptibility and possible active or recent infection. Objectives: To determine the serologic profile of toxoplasmosis in women of childbearing age (between 15 and 40 years old), and possible pregnant women, of two communities with different socioeconomic status in the northwestern region of São Paulo, and examine associations between susceptibility and socioeconomic status.Epidemiological study of 60 women and serology tests to detect toxoplasmosis antibodies IgM and IgG by the indirect hemagglutination method. In UNIRP students (n = 30), were found a frequency of susceptibility to toxoplasmosis of 80% (n = 24), immunity of 16.7% (n = 5) and possible recent infection of 3.3% (n = 1). In women living in the city of Catanduva (n = 30), were found a frequency of toxoplasmosis susceptibility of 13.3% (n = 4), immunity of 76.7% (n = 23) and possible infection recent 10% (n = 3). All risk factors for toxoplasmosis, socioeconomic status and seropositivity frequency in the two communities were correlated
