The archaeological intervention carried out in the Bagoeta area was prompted by the construction of a train platform for the Bilbao-San Sebastián-Vitoria High-Speed Train, Eskoriatza- Legutiano Stretch, which affects the Zone of Presumed Archaeological Interest pertaining to the aforementioned funerary site. The site is mainly located in Luko (Álava), which belongs to the Arrazua-Ubarrundia municipality, and was comprehensively excavated (11.5 ha) with the exception of the immediate vicinity of Santa Marina Chapel.
The large volume of information generated by the excavation of this site is still being studied, thus rendering any conclusions presented here merely provisional. However, we can state the discovery of a rural late medieval settlement that remained active until the 14th century.
