    Este artículo es un resumen de la tesis doctoral que se leyó en el año 2005 en el Departamento de Sociología y Antropología Social de la Universitat de València.

    El objetivo del análisis se plantea desvelar, desde una perspectiva sociohistórica, la irrupción del judo en la sociedad valenciana y su evolución hasta nuestros días en el contexto de una sociedad ampliamente deportivizada. Desde una mirada cualitativa, fundamentada en el análisis de los discursos producidos por informantes clave, se aborda la imagen social del judo como cultura cambiante, la forma en que se organiza su práctica y los confines que la delimitan en el contexto de la actual sociedad postindustrial y postmoderna.

    This article is a summary of the PhD thesis defended in 2005 at the Department of Sociology and Social Anthropology of the Universitat de València. From a social and historical perspective, the main objective of the research is t o analyze the beginning of judo in valencian society and its evolution to the present time in the context of a society widely related to sport. From a qualitative glance based on the analysis of the speeches produced by key informants, this paper focuses in the social image of judo like a changing culture, the form in which its practice is organized and the borders that delimit it in the context of the present postindustrial and postmodern society.
