Resumen de Inmigrantes indeseables: españoles expulsados de Río de Janeiro, 1907-1930

Este artículo expone la situación de un grupo de inmigrantes españoles radicados en Río de Janeiro en el primer tercio del siglo XX que fueron afectados por la llamada Lei Gordo (1907), que regulaba la expulsión de extranjeros indeseables de Brasil. Nuestro objetivo es doble: por un lado, examinar cómo intervinieron en este proceso algunos factores de exclusión social, especialmente las condiciones habitacionales y laborales que estos inmigrantes enfrentaban; y por otro, analizar quiénes eran estos indesejáveis y cómo llegaron a ser categorizados como tales.

This paper aims to expose the situation of several Spanish immigrants settled in Rio de Janeiro during 20th century first-third, who were affected by Lei Gordo (1907), which ruled misfit foreigners� expulsion from Brazil. Our aim is twofold: on the one hand, to examine how some social exclusion factors that immigrants faced, specially living and labour conditions, influenced this process; and, on the other, to analyze who this indesejáveis were, and how they came to this categorization.
