A detailed study of two rectangular plates with ancient greec inscriptions (IG XIV 2417,1 + 2) that are on display in the Archaeological Museum of Lorca shows that these objects are falsifications of official lead weights from the Roman province Pontus et Bithynia. Further research brought to light that similiar plates were sold to private collectors in different regions of Spain at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century. It demonstrates that skilful counterfeiters used the emerging interest of bourgeois collectors for their profit.
