  If rumour oscillates between the doxa and the episteme, becoming itself synonymous with indirect speech, and if it evolves in an individual and shared space of consolidation of social practices, the Proustian Recherche stands unequivocally as the novel of arch rumour –liable to being subdivided, according to our typology, into protorumour(s) and para-rumour(s)–, filtered through the central and unifying viewpoint of the protagonist narrator Marcel.
