Resumen de Cinquant'anni dopo: Gronchi, Tambroni e la forma di governo

Cesare Pinelli

  • Fifty years after the event, the Author retraces the formation and subsequent fall of the Tambroni Government in the context of the general political situation of the 1960s. One important event of that period was the use of force against constitutionnally protected demonstrations of dissent after the Italian Social Movement's party conference in Genoa was prohibited. Another important episode was the undersurface political clash between the President of the Republic Giovanni Gronchi and the majority Christian Democrats with regard to the opening of talks with the Socialist which would subsequently lead to the creation of the Center Left coalition. In particular, the author underlines how the Head of State persisted in defending the Tambroni Government till the very end notwithstanding the many expressions of dissent in Parliament and how this behavior would prove to be a negative example in the subsequent constitutional practice of the parliamentary form of government.
