Dioniso y las serpientes: imágenes y textos en el arcaísmo

    Encuadrada dentro de una investigación más extensa para revisar la iconografía de Dioniso y el entorno dionisíaco, esta contribución consiste en una presentación conjunta de los datos de los textos y las imágenes del período arcaico sobre la relación de Dioniso con las serpientes. Y el objetivo de esta revisión es doble, ya que, por una parte, intenta resaltar la importancia de contemplar de manera conjunta la información textual y figurada, porque resulta evidente que ambos medios presentan figuras del dios diferentes, y, por otra, pretende concentrar la atención en un aspecto pequeño y concreto de la compleja iconografía dionisíaca: la figura de la serpiente, uno de los animales que aparecen en relación con el dios. Las conclusiones de este conciso análisis de textos e imágenes muestran que, realmente, la relación de las serpientes con Dioniso dista de tener relevancia real en ambos medios en el período arcaico, quedando circunscrita prácticamente a la presencia del dios en la Gigantomaquia.

    Framed within a more extensive investigation to review the iconography of Dionysus and the Dionysiac environment, this contribution is a joint presentation of the data of the texts and images of the archaic period regarding Dionysus and his relationship with snakes. And the goal of this review is twofold, since on the one hand, seeks to highlight the importance of analysing jointly the information from texts and images, because it is clear that both media present different figures of the god, and secondly seeks to focus attention on a small aspect of Jhe complex and concrete Dionysiac iconography: the figure of the snake, one of the animals that appear in relation with the god. This concise text and image analysis shows that the relationship of snakes with Dionysus has indeed scarce relevance in both media in the archaic period, being limited practically to the presence of the god in the Gigantomachy.
