    En este artículo se presentan las críticas que desde la teoría feminista y la antropología social en perspectiva de género se hicieron a los antropólogos evolucionistas del siglo XIX . Para ello proponemos un repaso sobre lo que pensaba Darwin sobre las mujeres y que plasmó en su libro El origen del hombre y la selección natural, entablando un diálogo con otro autor de la época, John Stuart Mill. En segundo lugar, hablaremos del matriarcado, etapa por la que algunos de los antropólogos del momento pensaban que había pasado la humanidad antes de llegar al patriarcado, sistema íntimamente unido a la etapa de la civilización. Este con- cepto cobrará importancia en los años setenta y ochenta gracias al debate abierto dentro de la antropología feminista del momento, que posibilitó nuevos caminos de estudio a la an- tropología del género.

    This article presents the criticisms made by feminist theory and gender perspective in social anthropology regarding 19th century evolutionist anthropologists. To this end, we propose to review what Darwin thought about women, as reflected in his book The Origin of Man and Natural Selection, where he enters into a dialogue with John Stuart Mill. We shall deal with matriarchy as well: according to some anthropologists, humanity passed through a matriarchal stage before reaching the patriarchal one, intimately linked to the stage of civilization. This concept, outdated at the beginning of the 20th century, gains importance in the seventies and eighties thanks to the debate within feminist anthropology at that moment, which opened new paths for studying the anthropology of gender.
