  La vida humana está profundamente marcada por la contingencia: transcurre del nacimiento a la muerte. Empero, éstos no son sólo los puntales de nuestra existencia fáctica, sino también las referencias básicas para la experiencia e interpretación de la existencia. La huella que la caducidad imprime a nuestra condición conduce, paradójicamente, a presentaciones de la existencia como un continuo, que vinculan el lapso del nacimiento a la muerte con el «antes» y «después» de la existencia. Puede pensarse la vida como un «camino medio» que conduce a los finales: antes del nacimiento y después de la muerte; dos finales invisibles constitutivos de la experiencia de estar vivo. ¿Cómo nos las vemos con estos dos finales? Analizaremos, con Hans Blumenberg, tres formas básicas: mito, dogma y filosofía, sí como su relación con la pregunta por la razón de ser, pues la apertura intrínseca de la existencia humana al «no-ser» (en las formas del «no haber sido» y «no ser más») plantean esta pregunta existencial. Más allá de la distinción clásica mythos – logos, veremos que un movimiento de ida y vuelta entre lo icónico y lo conceptual es la constante en todos ellos, difiriendo, básicamente, en su particular rendimiento vital.

  Human life is deeply concerned with contingency: it flows from birth to death. Nevertheless these are not merely the actual cornerstones of our life time, but also the basic references for our experience and interpretation of existence. The print that expiry gives to our condition leads, paradoxically, to schemes that present existence in a continuity that relates the lapse between birth and death with the «before» and «after» of our own life length. It is possible to think of life as the «middle way» that leads to two invisible endings: beforebirth and afterdeath. These invisible endings appear as constituents of the experience of being alive. How do we humans afford them? We will analyze, with Hans Blumenberg, three basic forms: myth, dogma and philosophy, and their relation with the question of the reason for being, because the intrinsic foreclosure of human existence to the «non-being» (in the forms of «not having been» and «not being any more») pose this existential question. Far away from classical distinction mythos – logos, we will see that a movement of coming back and forth between iconic and conceptual elements is the constant in all of them, differing basically for their particular vital achievement.
