    Desde su fundación en 1703, San Petersburgo-Petrogrado-Leningrado ha sido un mito recurrente en la cultura rusa. La ciudad ha simbolizado la occidentalización de Rusia. Los estudios de este fenómeno se han centrado sobre todo en investigar cómo se creó mito en la literatura, pero no en el cine. Este artículo examina la representación de la ciudad en dos películas soviéticas: El Capote: una película al estilo de Gógol/ Kino-p’esa v manere Gogolia, (Kozintsev and Trauberg, 1926) y El Capote/Shinel’ (Batalov, 1956) como nuevas versiones del mito de la ciudad. A través de la obra de Gógol, las adaptaciones soviéticas muestran la forma en la que la herencia cultura del pasado fue relevante y cómo un mito puede dar sentido a una sociedad que necesita definir su identidad.

    Since its foundation in 1703, St Petersburg-Petrograd-Leningrad has become a recurrent myth of Russian culture. The city has been the symbol of the westernization of Russia. Different studies on this phenomenon have been limited to literary research on this mythmaking, but no approaches have been offered by film studies. This article offers an analysis of the depiction of the city in two soviet films which offer new versions of the aforementioned myth: The Overcoat: A Film-Play in the Manner of Gogol/Shinel’ Kino-pesa v manere Gogolia, (Kozintsev and Trauberg, 1926) and in The Overcoat/Shinel’ (Batalov, 1956). Throughout Gogol’s work, soviet adaptations reveal the way in which cultural heritage was relevant and how a myth can make sense to a society that needs to define its identity.
