  • The genre categories of Sanskrit give rise to linguistic reflection, but also to rituals, where a category, mithuna, couples excess and lack. This suggests that neutrality, in India, is "one AND the other" rather than neither one nor the other, or the not quite male of Sanskrit linguists.
