    A lo largo del siglo XIX son muchos los extremeños que tienen que emigrar a Madrid para continuar sus estudios superiores. Uno de ellos será Juan Uña Gómez (Maguilla, 1838-Madrid, 1909). Se licenció en Filosofía yLetras y en Derecho, y también obtuvo el título de Archivero y Bibliotecario.Fue discípulo de Sanz del Río y junto con otros condiscípulos formará elembrión de la Institución Libre de Enseñanza.

    Su vida pivotó entre la Educación y el Derecho (dos de las materias esenciales de los krausistas). Pasó de ser fundador y editor de la revista "La Enseñanza, Revista General de Instrucción Pública y Particular de Archivos yBibliotecas" a Secretario de la Universidad Central y, durante la Primera República, Director General de Instrucción Pública. Desde el año 1882 hastasu muerte fue Consejero de Instruccíon Pública.

    Fue diputado en Cortes y después del sexenio revolucionario abrió un bufete de abogado. Su relación con Extremadura no la perdería nunca y así lodemostró en sus actuaciones.

    During the XIXth century, many students from Extremadura had toinmigrate to Madrid to continue with their higher eduation. One of those students will be Juan Uña Gómez (Maguilla, 1838-Madrid, 1909). He took adegree in Philosophy and Arts as well as in Law. He also got the Certificate of Archivist and Librarian. He was a disciple of Sanz del Río and, together withother called "La Enseñanza, Revista General de Instrucción Pública y Particular de Archivos y Bibliotecas" he becameSecretary of theCentral University and, during the First Republic, he was Director General of State Education. From 1882 to his death he was Minister of State Education.

    He was a member of the Spanish Parliamentand ,aftert he Revolutionary Six-year Term, he setup in legal practice. He would never lose his relation ship with Extremadura and he showed it so in all his actions.

    disciples, he formed the embryo of the Free Institution of Instruction (Institución Libre de Enseñanza).
