Siendo una de las más antiguas e importantes iglesias que tuvo la Or- den de Alcántara, en cambio, la bibliografia sobre ella es muy escasal.En este recorrido cronológico por su historia constructiva, en la que se distinguen cuatro grandes procesos muy diferentes (la mezquita árabe, la iglesia tardorrománica del siglo XIII, la capilla mayor renacentista del XVI, y la gran reforma que hizo Larra Churriguera en el siglo XVIII), nos centraremos en el tercero por ser el objetivo principal de este monográfico, resumiendo los de- más a manera de introducción y epilogo.

Being one of the oldest and most important churches that the Order of Alcántara had, the bibliography on it, however, is very small. On this chrono- logical journey through its building history, in which four big very different processes can be distinguished (the Arab mosque, the 13th century late Romanesque church, the 16th century Renaissance main chapel, and the large reform carried out by Larra Churriguera in the 18th century), we are going to focus on the third one as it is the main aim of this monograph, and we will summarize the others as an introduction and an epilogue.
