La carrera de ingeniería civil y su pertinencia social en la costa oriental del Lago de Maracaibo

    El objetivo de la investigación es determinar la pertinencia social de la carrera Ingeniería Civil del Núcleo LUZ-COL, en el contexto actual de la Costa Oriental del Lago de Maracaibo. El estudio se analizó a la luz de las ideas propuestas por Espinoza (1996), Gottifreddi (1996), el Núcleo de Decanos de Ingeniería (2005), SEA (2001) y Sutz (2003). El tipo de investigación se enmarcó en el ámbito evaluativo, descriptivo, transeccional y de campo, a través de un diseño no experimental. La investigación está constituida por dos (2) poblaciones: a) el sector empleador representado por 38 empresas y b) los ingenieros civiles egresados del Núcleo LUZ-COL, durante los últimos cinco (5) años representado por 36 egresados. La muestra estuvo constituida por 27 representantes de los entes empleadores y 25 ingenieros civiles. Para la recolección de la información se aplicaron dos cuestionarios, obteniendo una confiabilidad de 0,95 (entes empleadores) y 0,98 (ingenieros civiles). Los resultados evidencian una alta demanda ocupacional, sustentada por la satisfacción, tanto del sector productivo como de los egresados. Se concluye que la carrera posee pertinencia social, atractiva, vinculada al bienestar de la comunidad, con una urgente necesidad de reorientación.

    The purpose of this research is to determine the social pertinence of Civil Engineering at LUZ COL Campus, considering the present context of the Eastern Coast of the Lake of Maracaibo. The study was carried out based on the concepts proposed by Espinoza (1996), Gottifreddi (1996), The Dean Association of Engineering (2005), SEA (2001) and Sutz (2003), using a descriptive, evaluative transectional and field research, through a non-experimental design. Two (2) populations were selected for this study: a) the productive sector, represented by 38 Companies and b) the civil engineers graduated from LUZ-COL Campus during the last five (5) years, represented by 36 individuals. The sample was formed by 27 employers� representatives and 25 civil engineers graduated from LUZ-COL Campus. Data collection was made through the administration of two questionnaires, obtaining a reliability of 0.95 for employers and 0.98 for civil engineers. The results demonstrate a high occupational demand based on the satisfaction of the productive sector as well as of graduated civil engineers. The conclusion is that the career is socially pertinent, attractive, connected with the welfare of the community, but with an urgent need to be reoriented.
