As a contribution to the burst of science outreach during the International Year of Astronomy, we have designed a simple spectroscope with a narrow slit, a converging lens and a diffraction grating. With it, we have been able to observe the emission spectra from different lamps (H, He, Na,...) in the laboratory and black absorption lines from the Sun, known as Fraunhofer lines. The assembly of this spectroscope is very easy and can be used in Secondary School classrooms for subjects such as: “Physics and Chemistry”, “Science for the modern world”, “Introduction to Astronomy” and “Technology”
