This study describes the development of Hungarian legal philosophical thinking from the early 16th to the late 19th centuries. It covers the introduction of the most important representatives of and trends in the natural, Kantian and historical schools of law. The efforts in legal theory in this period have played a major role in the process of gaining independence in Hungarian legal and philosophical thinking.
