Resumen de Traitement de l'information et jugement prédictif: une approche «intégrative»

Ghislaine Richard, Ewa Drozda-Senkowska

  • This research examined an « integrative » approach to the processing of base-rate and individuating information in predictive judgments. We used the well-known « lawyers! engineers » task developped by Kahneman and Tversky (1973) whose « dualistic » approach induced data interpretation in terms of two mutually exclusive processes i.e. taking into account either base-rate or individuating information. Ajzen (1977, study 2) suggested that whether or not base-rate information has causal relevance will determine the preferential use of base-rate or individuating information. We replicated this study and proposed an integrative processing of information. Our hypothesis was confirmed : both predictive estimations and judgments of importance of information revealed an adjustment reflecting combined use of both types of information. The generalization of our results is discussed.
